Graphics, sportplay, and plot are all extra cartoony. There are much less personas, less stat tweaking, less control.
However from the perspective of a dad in search of some quality time with the 7 yr old boy, it is a super sport. It's easy enough that he can master it, but different sufficient that I'm not bored with the sportplay. He's been specifically tickled with the variety of personalitys and experiences attempting out each new crew mate and their powers as you release them.
